Kavanagh Danaher, Registered Dietitian

Kavanagh is a Registered Dietitian and has completed training in managing irritable bowel syndrome through Monash University and is a Certified Diabetes Educator.

Dietitians are the only regulated nutrition health professionals in Canada. The title ‘dietitian’ is protected by law, just like physician, nurse and pharmacist. You can identify a dietitian by the initials RD. To use this title in British Columbia, the dietitian must meet and maintain the College of Dietitians of British Columbia’s registration requirements.

Dietitians are university educated with at least 1250 hours of supervised, hands-on training in food systems, disease management, population health, communications and counselling. They must pass a registration exam to become a regulated health professional. Ongoing professional development is not only a core value but a requirement.

As a Registered Dietitian, Kavanagh brings evidence-based decision-making to her practice. She translates the science of nutrition into practical information to help clients make healthy food choices in managing disease states, improving general health or performance in athletics.  She strongly believes in prevention of disease states through nutrition and therefore sees benefit to dietetic counselling to anyone who expresses an interest in improving their health through nutrition.

She has completed the Craving Change program to better support patients in making behavioral changes around their eating habits. Using cognitive behavioral therapy to address thoughts, feelings, and their interactions with behaviors around food, Kavanagh can support clients to combat “why” they are eating in addition to “what” they are eating.
